‘Hellboy’ gets a reboot, loses del Toro and Ron Pearlman

Get ready to be upset, Hellboy fans: there’s a reboot in the works and it doesn’t star Ron Perlman as Hellboy, nor will it be directed by long-time series director Guillermo del Toro.

To say this reboot, based on the Dark Horse comic book series of the same name, is controversial is a bit of an understatement. Ron Perlman is beloved in his iconic role as the human-raised demon Hellboy and his replacement by actor David Harbour (of Stranger Things fame) has the internet grabbing their pitchforks.

Similarly, Del Toro’s ouster isn’t good news for fans. In his stead, The Descent director Neil Marshall is now attached to the project.

Of course, the film is in the early stages of pre-production with a script still in the works and a number of cast and crew yet to have been found. Because of this, no release date is set (and we likely won’t see one for quite some time).

Fans may remember Del Toro’s recent attempt to create another i film which unfortunately fell flat, with the director saying once and for all that he’s throwing in the towel. Looks like this is what comes with the territory – the reboot vultures were already circling!
