Blizzard’s answer to MOBAs like League of Legends and DotA 2, took shape two years ago in the form of Heroes of the Storm. Throughout the years various changes have been made, of course, but this time around, Blizzard feels like a complete overhaul is needed.
Blizzard first announced that they would be changing the progression system. They wrote:
“The first major update coming with Heroes of the Storm 2.0 is a massive overhaul of our leveling and progression systems! In our next patch, we’ve decided to make progression more straightforward by removing the Player Level cap and transforming it into the sum of all the Hero levels you’ve gained. We’ve also removed the Hero level cap so that your ability to continue progressing is near limitless.”
On top of that, Blizzard also announced that players will be awarded a Loot Chest (which will award in game cosmetic items ranging from voice lines, to skins, and even heroes) every time they gain a new level. With each chest randomly assigned a normal, rare, epic, or legendary quality, it is sure to keep things exciting.
