Let the games begin with the official Nebula nominations

Well, the Nebula nominations came out this week, and I’m starting to feel like I have some reading to do! When I started sorting through all the amazing media that came out last year, there were three things I felt sure would show up on all the nomination lists this year: Lock In, The Slow Regard of Silent Things, and Captain America Winter Soldier. As you can see, only one of those proved correct.

I figured there would be things on the final Hugo ballet that I was unfamiliar with and would need to read before voting. But scanning down the Nebula list I’ve read – exactly one thing. My assumption that Ancillary Sword wouldn’t be considered after the phenomenal sweep it’s predecessor made of the awards last year is happily wrong, but that leaves a lot of material I suspect I should start getting acquainted with. So I intend to make like Hermione and get me to a library. How about you all? Are these the things you’d expect to see representing 2014?
