SDCC14: Parkour your way through this ‘Assassin’s Creed Unity’ course and gameplay

lyth-sdcc-logo-585-narrowerUbisoft went all out yet again at San Diego Comic Con, potentially topping last year’s authentic pirate ship on San Diego bay. On the lawn directly across from San Diego Comic Con sat a professionally built and designed parkour course, themed from the ground up to look straight out of Ubisoft’s next Assassin’s Creed release, Assassin’s Creed Unity.

Ubisoft contracted famed parkour expert, Michael “Frosti” Zernow, affectionately known within Ubisoft as Chief Parkour Officer. The course was in development for months, first as a concept piece in a 3D rendering video and then brought to life by a team of designers and builders.

When our team arrived to preview the event on Wednesday, known as Preview Night at Comic Con, construction was still ongoing. The team offered us a walk through, explaining their intentions with each obstacle – they were aiming to push a number of different physical limits, from upper body to the core. From scaling walls to jumping through a tick-tack like path, the Assassin’s Creed experience offered it all.

To top off the experience, fans were offered the opportunity to clime to the top of a highrise and jump from a twenty-five foot Leap of Faith. All of this is watched from below by dozens of onlookers and passerbys, adding to the pressure of the event.

Each runner is timed and leaderboards including the best times will be displayed throughout the event, and as a bonus, for completing the course, fans are given an Assassin’s Creed Unity shirt and a chance to demo the unreleased game.

Schick also returned to sponsor the event, again offering free shaves to Assassin’s Creed fans looking to tidy up their faces, and for the ladies, their legs. The shaving station was set up featuring guillotines and reclining chairs. The shavers were dressed to the nines in outfits directly out of Assassin’s Creed Unity.

We were given media access to the event as two of our writers ran the course. We were able to snap a great collection of photos and put together a video featuring footage from the course, the Leap of Faith, and gameplay footage from Assassin’s Creed Unity.

Be sure to check out the rest of our San Diego Comic Con coverage, including our exclusive media access to the Hunger Games Capitol Gallery and the Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel Laser Tag, as well as our many other exclusive opportunities!
