A blow to the horror community: FEARnet closes up shop

For those of you who aren’t familiar with the channel, FEARnet has filled a horror void for television network Comcast. The channel was a joint venture between Comcast, Sony Pictures Entertainment, and Lionsgate Entertainment.

According to Deadline, Comcast has bought out its partners and will be folding the brand in with their NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment division. FEARnet programming/content will be migrated to Chiller (home of thriller, suspense, and horror-focused content) and a portion will be shared with Syfy. Additionally, 15 of FEARnet’s 25 employees were laid off today. 10 (including President Peter Block) will remain on the payroll through the transition.

It’s the end of an era. I’m sorry to see it go.
