New ‘Battlestar Galactica’ movie in the works

Universal Pictures has announced that they are planning a new Battlestar Galactica movie. Their plan is to completely re-imagine the story. This would be the second reboot after the original show aired in 1978, and after the very successful 2003 series.

Jack Plagen (Transcendence, Prometheus 2) is going to write the screenplay, and the original producer, Glen Larson, is also going to produce this movie. Bryan Singer was rumored to be the chosen director, but now that he’s working on the X-Men franchise – both the Days of Future Past and Apocalypse movies – it’s unlikely it will be so.

After the 2003 TV series was so well received, it’s hard to imagine a complete re-imagining of the story. I suppose the main plot would have to stay the same for it to make sense in the Galactica universe, but what about the characters? We’ll have to wait and see, and wonder why this fascination with reboots instead of new, original movies.
