Sad news, Maze Runner fans: the adaptation of the first novel in James Dashner’s popular trilogy by the same name has been pushed to fall 2014. Although the film was originally set to hit theaters on February 14th, 2014, we’ll now have to wait an extra seven months, as the film is now set to hit theaters on September 19th, 2014!
The news originally broke on Maze Runner director Wes Ball’s Twitter feed, where he tweeted the following:
“Good news and bad news y’all. Bad news, you have to wait a bit longer. Good news, the movie and marketing can be the best it can be now.”
“These things aren’t my choice, but I 100% agree with fox’s decision. Just imagine the cool stuff we can do with a little extra time.”
“I’ll do my best to get you guys some cool stuff to see in the mean time.”
The Maze Runner author James Dashner, who has been heavily involved in the film’s production from the get-go, was very supportive of the news, tweeting:
This is purely, 100% good news. If you’ve ever trusted me, trust me now. Never rush brilliance. #themazerunner #091914

Coincidentally, we’re hosting James Dashner as our featured author of the week here on Lytherus to promote his new book, The Eye of Minds! We’ll be running an interview with the author on Wednesday where he discusses and reveals a great deal of information about the upcoming Maze Runner film — you won’t want to miss it!
Here’s a synopsis of the film for those of you who may be unfamiliar with the books:
Set in a post-apocalyptic world, young Thomas is deposited in a community of boys after his memory is erased, soon learning they’re all trapped in a maze that will require him to join forces with fellow “runners” for a shot at escape.
Directed by Wes Ball and starring Dylan O’Brien, Will Poulter, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, and Kaya Scodelario, The Maze Runner will hit theaters on September 19th, 2014!
