Author A.C. Crispin reaches out to her fans in farewell: updated

Update: Ann passed away this morning. Goodbye to amazing woman who changed the face of science fiction and fantasy forever. Requiescat in pace.

Ann Crispin, author of many books, added a post to her Facebook yesterday regarding her battle with cancer.

I’ve been hesitant to make this post, but it’s time. I want to thank you all for your good wishes and prayers. I fear my condition is deteriorating. I am doing the best I can to be positive but I probably don’t have an awful lot of time left. I want you all to know that I am receiving excellent care and am surrounded by family and friends.

I wish all aspiring writers the will to finish and a good contract. Please continue to monitor Writer Beware and be careful who you sign with. Victoria Strauss and Richard White are there to help.

I’ve asked Michael to collect and read me your messages. As I don’t know how things will proceed, I don’t know if I’ll have the strength to post on Facebook again.

Maybe you know the name A.C. Crispin from her prolific media tie in books that ranged from Star Wars to Star Trek and from Alien to Pirates of the Caribbean. Or maybe you know her from her own original Star Bridge and Exiles of Boq’urain series. The variety and sheer volume of the stories she shared with us caused her to be one of the authors who touched a wide spectrum of readers.

I remember picking up her Han Solo Trilogy after reading The Crystal Star and finding my faith in the EU restored. Similarly, I recently found a copy of her book Pirates of the Caribbean: The Price of Freedom. I’d become pretty jade by all the newer movie and TV show novelizations, but the name Crispin on the cover lured me in. And once again, she proved capable of taking my cynicism and overcoming it.

I encourage all of you to visit her Facebook and let her know how much her books are loved and how many lives she’s touched.
