‘Game of Thrones’ season four begins filming, bringing new cast and set photos

Game of Thrones season four, the mega-series produced by HBO, has officially begun filming! Filming kicked off in Croatia, where the crew will stay through the end of September before moving to Split and the Adriatic Sea to continue filming in October.

Filming wasn’t off to a great start: the first day of filming on the set was marred by rain, but the cast and crew were able to recover later in the day for several great shots (photographed below).

On hand for filming were a number of main characters, including Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner), Cersei Lannister (Lena Heady), Tywin Lannister (Charles Dance), Grand Maester Pycelle (Julian Glover), Olenna Tyrell (Diana Rigg), and more. The photos also feature a number of film sets, most of which appear to be used for various Kings Landing scenes. Familiar sets include Olenna Tyrell’s garden, where many scenes took place in season three, as well as a number of locations displaying the Lannister’s battle standard, which can also be scene painted as a giant mural on the ground.

Game of Thrones season four is set to premiere during Spring in 2014!
