‘Game of Thrones’ recasts Daario Naharis

HBO has just announced that Daario Naharis, the Captain of the mercenary company Stormcrows, will have a new face on season 4. Michiel Huisman, known for his roles on Nashville and Treme, will be replacing Ed Skrein (The Sweeney).

After some rumors that the actor would be joining the series, his character has finally been confirmed. Earlier this month his personal trainer posted a photo on Instagram, saying he was “getting him ready for Game of Thrones.” He was proud of his dedication, and that it was a huge difference from his days on Treme. No reason has yet been given for this need to change the actor.

This is not the first recast for this season: Tommen Baratheon will also be played by a new actor. Callum Wharry was replaced by Dean-Charles Chapman, who is older. He played Richard Grey on The White Queen, and for Game of Thrones‘ fans he is known for playing Martyn Lannister, one of Robb Stark’s captives. This probably means the character will be getting more screen time, hence the older actor.

Other new additions to the cast are: Pedro Rascal (Graceland) as Oberyn Martell, Indira Varma (Rome) as Ellaria Sand, Roger Ashton-Griffiths (Gangs of New York) as Mace Tyrell, and Mark Gatiss (Sherlock) as an of yet announced character. Season 4 will premiere on spring 2014.
