The Wasp was originally set to appear in ‘The Avengers’, revealed in new animatic

the-avengers-the-waspAnother new alternate ending animatic has been released for The Avengers, hot on the heels of the first set of Avengers and Iron Man 3 animatics. This time we have an alternate ending featuring a new superhero — The Wasp — who, it would appear, was in early drafts of The Avengers.

Just who is Wasp? The Wasp, known as Janet van Dyne, was a founding member of the Avengers in the Marvel Comic Universe. In the comics, the superheroine has the ability to shrink to a height of perhaps several centimeters, grow to giant size, fly by means of insectoid wings, and fire yellow energy blasts. It is unclear why Joss Whedon and team decided to remove Wasp, a key member of the Avengers, from the film, although it’s possible that they felt they were juggling too many superheroes in the film.

You can see Wasp appear in the animatic around the 17 second mark (also pictured above). The video shows the iconic NYC battle scene from the end of the film, and even manages to look stunning as an animated storyboard! Aside from the appearance of the Wasp and the quick ending of the giant metal alien worm, the scene remains the same as what we saw in the film.

The Avengers hit DVD on September 25th, 2012. The sequel to The Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron, is set to hit theaters on May 1st, 2015!
