Guillermo Del Toro’s ‘Crimson Peak’ has lost another cast member

Del Toro’s opening of Pacific Rim is behind him and he is now preparing to shoot the pilot for a potential television series called ‘The Strain’ which will potentially be shown on FX. His next project after the pilot is to continue pre-production activities for his haunted film, Crimson Peak. Filming is scheduled to begin in January 2014.

Del Toro describes the film on his fan page blog as:

CP is not Hell House at all. Nothing could be further from that. CP is a spec script Matthew [Robbins] and I wrote right after Pan’s Labyrinth. It stayed mostly under the radar but I have been pushing it quietly. Universal has been very supportive and wanted to do it. It’s set at the turn of the century and it is a Gothic romance with ghosts. When I use the GR term I use it not in the Barbara Cartland model but rather in a Bronte fashion. Dark and stormy and wind- swept.

Unfortunately, cast members have been jumping ship. It was announced previously that Emma Stone left the project. Now, it appears that Benedict Cumberbatch is out as well. No word has been announced as to why he left.

That leaves us with Charlie Hunnam, Jessica Chastain, and Mia Wasikowska. I’m hoping that none of these folks jump ship. I would love to see what they all could bring to the gothic horror film.
