Stunning new ‘Iron Man 3’ concept art released by Phil Saunders gives us a new look at the film

A new batch of concept art for Iron Man 3 has hit the web and it’s quite possibly even cooler than the movie itself! Marvel concept artist Phil Saunders was responsible for the pieces, which give us a glimpse at several bad-ass Iron Man suits, as well as a unique look at the incredibly powerful Savin Extremis.

The concept artist also released an interesting tidbit of information regarding Savin and his changes throughout the screenplay writing process:

In early versions of the script Extremis was based on Nanotechnology like in the comic book, and would have constructed some sort of internal armor structure to grant the enhanced soldiers super-strength and near-invulnerability. Thematically they would have been a reflection of Tony Stark, wearing their “suits” internally rather than externally. Makeup would have subtly suggested that structure by deforming their skin in a mechanical way.

You can see from the final result shown in films that they shied away from the idea of internal Nanotech suits, which Saunders may have attempted to illustrate in his concept art piece:

Earlier today we posted a look at new footage, both from the film and behind-the-scenes, of Thor: The Dark World, released as promotion for the upcoming Iron Man 3 Blu-ray launch.

Iron Man 3 hit theaters on May 3rd, 2013, and is set to hit DVD and Blu-ray on September 24th, 2013!
