J.J. Abrams releases cryptic new trailer titled “Stranger”

stranger-jj-abrams-bad-robotJ.J. Abrams and his production company Bad Robot are no stranger to cryptic and vague projects. Their hit show LOST was as cryptic as it gets, and the entire theme behind the marketing campaign for his monster smash Cloverfield was based around secrecy, cryptic messages, and vague promotions. Capitalizing on this theme seems to be their business model.

Well, they’re back at it again. Today, Bad Robot released this bizarre and mysterious trailer through their Youtube channel titled “Stranger”:

The video was released to Entertainment Weekly with absolutely no information attached — just the video. The comments section on the video has been disabled, and the description of the video doesn’t exist. No one has pinpointed the narrator or the actor in the video (whether or not they’re the same person, we don’t know).

So… what the heck is going on here?!

The trailer ends with a very interesting “Soon he will know”. What does this mean? Why is there a man stumbling out of the water, cut ropes hanging from his wrist? Who is the man who forms out of the moon, mouth sewn up with an evil look on his face?

Lots of questions, very few answers… true to Abrams’ style. Hopefully we’ll get some answers soon.

We’ll keep you updated on any news about this project!
