Wes Craven weighs in on ‘Scream’ television series

I’m not sure if you all have seen this, but MTV is looking at turning Wes Craven’s Scream series into a television show (I can only imagine how many of you are shaking your heads as you read this). Today, Wes Craven posted on Twitter his thoughts about the series and his potential involvement in directing the pilot episode:

A lot of you have asked about the Scream TV series. It’s true I’ve been approached. My response was, it would depend on the script… If they have a great script/concept, it could be fun. If not, not.”

Scream is being produced by Dimension Films with MTV. MTV is currently searching for writers for the one hour pilot. With Wes Craven in discussions for directing the pilot, there is potential for this project to be interesting while continuing the mythos of Ghostface. If Scream does receive the go ahead, the series would be scheduled to be released in summer 2014.

So, what do you think? With other horror movie inspired shows (Bates Motel and Hannibal), what do you think about this new trend to continue or explain the stories of horror’s favorite killers?
