Showtime recently confirmed long-term speculation that the eighth season of its (tied for) number one show Dexter would be its last. The premium cable channel is now ready to reveal a plot synopsis for the final season, promising that the show will be going out with a bang as it seeks to answer long-held secrets, reveal core information about Dexter’s past, and more:
“Dexter” stars Michael C. Hall in his Golden Globe and SAG Award-winning role as Dexter Morgan, a complicated and conflicted blood-spatter expert for the Miami police department. Season Eight begins six months after LaGuerta’s murder – and Dexter is still managing life as a dad, brother, and serial killer. As Deb (series star Jennifer Carpenter) struggles to deal with the consequences of her actions, a mysterious woman comes to work with Miami Metro, offering first-hand information on Dexter’s past.
The most interesting piece of information gleamed from the season’s description is that we’ll be missing nearly six months worth of events following last year’s season finale. Also teased in the summary is a “mysterious woman” — who is she, what does she know about Dexter, and how does she know it? Will the information this woman brings with her threaten to further unravel the secret world Dexter has spun around himself? Will Dexter finally be revealed as what he truly is?
Showtime recently released a two minute sneak peek at the final season:
The eighth and final season of Dexter, containing twelve new episodes, is set to premiere on June 30th, 2013!
