Game publisher Ubisoft has released a new gameplay trailer for their hugely anticipated open-world action adventure game, Watch_Dogs. The trailer follows the game’s main character, Aiden Pearce, as he hacks and shoots his way through an alternative-future Chicago.
Watch_Dogs aims to disrupt the flow of typical open-world action-adventure games by introducing a new core game mechanic, allowing players the ability to hack any device — cell phones, computers, security cameras, etc. — in order to gain information on a location, target, or random passerby.
The trailer is narrated by Pierce, who’s hatred for those who have corrupted Chicago appears to be motivated by the death of someone close to him. The trailer clearly shows Pierce in a graveyard as he begins narrating the trailer, stating: “In this city, no one can hide from me — no one. I wasn’t always this guy. They crossed a line, and for that, I will make them pay. I’ll turn their city against them. They think I’m a man out of control… but I’ve never had so much control.”
An official synopsis for the game sheds a bit more light on what players can expect both from the game’s story and its gameplay:
In Watch Dogs you play as Aiden Pearce, a brilliant hacker and former thug, whose criminal past led to a violent family tragedy. Now on the hunt for those who hurt your family, you’ll be able to monitor and hack all who surround you by manipulating everything connected to the city’s network. Use the city of Chicago as your ultimate weapon and exact your own style of revenge.
Watch Dogs is a ground-breaking open-world action-adventure game called designed by a team comprised of industry veterans from blockbuster franchises like Assassin’s Creed, Rainbow 6 and Far Cry. Watch Dogs blends cutting-edge technologies and sophisticated game design into a realistic and living open world where players must use any means at their disposal to take down a corrupt system.
Ubisoft has also announced a release date alongside the gameplay trailer’s premiere, stating that the game will release on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii U and PC on November 19th, 2013. A PlayStation 4 version of Watch_Dogs is slated to release alongside the console, which as of yet has no public release date.
