Ever since Thanos turned his ugly purple head and grinned at the audience at the end of The Avengers, viewers have speculated as to when the Mad Titan will make his inevitable return. He is an incredibly powerful villain who will prove to be quite a formidable foe for Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, and Joss Whedon is ensuring that the mighty alien’s presence will be felt for quite a while. Here’s what Whedon had to say on the matter:
Well, Thanos is more powerful. He is so powerful he is not someone you can just try out and punch him. Like he did in the comics, you want him threading through the universe and to save the big finale for the big finale. He is definitely a part of what I have got going on. The thing about The Avengers is that they are very powerful but not very stable. So, there will definitely be some people that will shake them up in the next installment.
With a villain like Thanos, Whedon’s approach is the best route to take. To truly feel his strength and influence over the Marvel Universe’s events, he will need to be woven into the story instead of showing up to wreak havoc then promptly be defeated. The Avengers 2 could further hint at his arrival, but it would be best to save him for Phase Three. That way, audiences would get one hell of a finale and a huge payoff.
What do you think? Should we see evidence of Thanos throughout Phase Two and finally see him in action in Phase Three? Or should he show up in The Avengers 2? Let us know in the comments!
