Microsoft will announce next-gen Xbox in May – described as ‘A Next Generation Revealed’

We have heard rumors and stories for what seems like an eternity now, but today it becomes official.  Microsoft has confirmed that at 1pm EST on May 21, 2013, the world will see “A New Generation Revealed,” and what is in store for Xbox.

Here’s the official statement:

On Tuesday May 21st, we’ll mark the beginning of a new generation of games, TV and entertainment. On that day, we’ll be holding a special press event on the Xbox campus and we invite you to join us via the live global stream that will be available on, Xbox LIVE and broadcast on Spike TV if you are in the US or Canada.

On that day, we’ll share our vision for Xbox, and give you a real taste of the future. Then, 19-days later at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles, we’ll continue the conversation and showcase our full lineup of blockbuster games.

We are thrilled to pull back the curtain and reveal what we’ve been working on.

We are still keeping expectations low as the company has a growing desire to become an entertainment center, not just a gaming console.  It is entirely possible that the event will focus merely on Xbox TV, steaming video and music applications, with a more “game-focused” agenda planned for E3.

Either way it goes, we will be waiting and ready to spread the word.
