Bryan Singer reveals two new characters joining the X-Men team in ‘Days of Future Past’

X-Men-First-Class-LogoMore behind-the-scenes scoops from X-Men: Days of Future Past director Bryan Singer have hit the web, this time revealing two new characters joining the X-Men team in the First Class sequel!

Bishop and Warpath, two mutants with long and varied histories in the Marvel universe, have been revealed as a part of the X-Men team in the upcoming film. While Singer did reveal the characters will be in the film, the characters’ actors remain a mystery. In addition, both characters (profiled below) have histories of being both with and against the X-Men team, and it remains to be seen which side they’ll be on in the film’s plot.

Days of Future Past will mark both characters’ first appearances in a live-action X-Men film (although Bishop appeared in X-Men: The Animated Series), which may leave some X-Men movie fans a bit clueless as to who the heck these two mutants are. Thanks to the power of Wikipedia, we’re able to profile both for you:

Bishop was a member of Xavier’s Security Enforcers (initially called the Xavier School Enforcers), a mutant police force from a dystopian future of the Marvel Universe. He traveled to the 20th century and joined the X-Men, a team he knew only as legends. A brash antihero, he had difficulty adjusting to the norms of the time period. After a decade and a half of acting as a member of the team, Bishop was instead portrayed as one of the X-Men’s main antagonists.

An ApacheNative American, Proudstar possesses mutant superhuman strength and speed, like his older brother, the short-lived X-Man Thunderbird, though Warpath’s power-levels are much higher. He originally blamed the X-Men for his brother’s death and joined the villain group the Hellions to get revenge. He later reconsidered his views and became a longtime member of the militant X-Men offshoot X-Force. After a long journey to the Shi’ar Empire with the Uncanny X-Men, Warpath became a member of the new incarnation of X-Force but he left after the events of Necrosha.

Here’s director Bryan Singer’s behind-the-scenes video, in which he revealed the two cast members by showing off the X-Men directors’ chairs from the film’s set:

X-Men: Days of Future Past is currently filming and is set to release on July 18th, 2014!
