‘Man of Steel’ takes over Empire Magazine, revealing a new batch of movie stills and plot information

man-of-steel-stills-001No one can stop the Man of Steel, who seems to be on a promotional rampage ahead of the film’s June 14th release. Just over a week ago, we published a first look at General Zod’s armor from the movie, and this time we’ve got General Zod and more, in addition to some interesting plot insight courtesy of the film’s director, thanks to a huge spread in Empire Magazine.

Impressive full-body photos of both Superman (Henry Cavill) and General Zod (Michael Shannon) grace two alternative collectors covers of the magazine’s June issue, hitting news stands shortly. Inside the issue are new stills featuring Superman, close-ups of Superman and General Zod, in addition to Lois Lane (Amy Adams), and Faora (Antje Traue). Curiously, the last still shows Faora lifting Martha Kent (Superman’s adoptive mother) up by the neck:

Man of Steel will start off in Smallville as the show’s production team hope to build a believable foundation for Clark Kent’s character. Zack Snyder, the film’s director, hopes there’s no confusion between the fictional Smallville television show universe and the fresh experience he’s crafted for Man of Steel, though:

“It’s a Western face-off,” says Snyder. “[Zod and Faora and the rest of the Kryptonian invasion] care very little for Smallville’s iconographic status. We’re being really hard on the town: this battle needed to be dangerous.”

A few more details: the shoot took nine days to complete, it’s the first major conflict in the movie and the town of Plano, Illinois, plays Smallville, Kansas. The mayor even gets a cameo. Look out for a particularly oh-my-god-I-can’t-believe-this-is-happening bank teller.

Sounds like Superman’s home town might be up for some destruction!

Should we expect a second Man of Steel movie any time soon? Here’s what director Zack Snyder had to say when asked:

“We didn’t design the movie like Batman [i.e. as a trilogy] but I┬ádon’t think anybody would say you design a Superman movie as a one-off.”

Man of Steel is set to hit theaters on June 14th!
