First trailer for ‘Thor: The Dark World’ has been released!

thor-the-dark-worldThor might have been back in last year’s The Avengers, but it’s been nearly three years since the original Thor film hit theaters, and we’re happy to say that the wait is almost over! After a week of teasing, the Thor: The Dark World trailer has finally been released, chock full of alien-vs.-gods action… and Natalie Portman.

The trailer takes place on Earth, Asgard, and elsewhere, and gives us a glimpse at a whole host of characters, including Jane Foster, Loki, and Malekith… and a land-destroying mega-spaceship! After time away from Earth, Thor returns after what appears to be an attack on the planet and quickly whisks Jane back to Asgard. The trailer ends with a character falling to his knees in what appears to be defeat, but the character’s face is not revealed.

This is Alan Taylor’s (Game of Thrones) Marvel directorial debut, and his Game of Thrones influence is heavy — and impressive. Between Hemsworth, who has clearly come into his role as Thor since the first film, and Tom Hiddleston as Loki, we’re expecting another hit. Throw in some of those Marvel battles we all know and love, the occasional comedy, and a promising storyline, and it we’re in!

For those of you who missed our earlier post and are interested in a glimpse into Thor: The Dark World‘s plot, here’s the official synopsis:

Marvel’s “Thor: The Dark World” continues the big-screen adventures of Thor, the Mighty Avenger, as he battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself.  In the aftermath of Marvel’s “Thor” and “Marvel’s The Avengers,” Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos…but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness.  Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all.

Thor: The Dark World hits theaters on November 8th!
