“Doctor Who?” We’ll soon find out, as the season finale’s title has been revealed as ‘The Name of the Doctor’!

The question may finally be answered: Doctor Who? The BBC has released the final series 7b episode poster, which reveals the title and tagline for the season finale: The Doctor’s Name. The episode poster’s tagline states “His secret revealed”.

This is potentially huge news for Whovians everywhere. For nearly fifty years, the Doctor has been a mysterious man of which we know little. The question has always been “Doctor Who?”, and despite constant inquiries, the Doctor has seemed no closer to revealing this long-kept secret. But showrunner Steven Moffat has been teasing that an answer may some day come, both in the series itself and during interviews. It seems as though that day may arrive on May 18th, when the season finale airs!

The episode poster also reveals that Alex Kingston (River Song), who has been noticeably absent for the second half of the 7th series, will be returning. BlogtorWho, a popular Doctor Who blog, is reporting that River Song will play a “significant” role in the episode.

A brief episode synopsis for “The Doctor’s Name” was also released:

Someone is kidnapping the Doctor’s friends, leading him towards the one place in all of time and space that he should never go.

No stills or previews from the episode have been released yet, but we do have a look at the episode’s “baddies”: the Whispermen:

Doctor Who‘s season finale, “The Doctor’s Name”, is set to air on May 18th. We’ll have a new episode of Doctor Who every Saturday until then, starting with this weekend’s episode, “Hide”.
