The official title of Martha Wells’ Leia novel might shed light on the direction of the new series

EndorLeiaToday Star Wars Books announced the actual title of the upcoming Leia novel on their Facebook page.

We have a title for the upcoming Martha Wells book featuring Princess Leia – STAR WARS: EMPIRE AND REBELLION: RAZOR’S EDGE. The book is a Princess Leia adventure that will also include Han Solo and Luke Skywalker and is set after A New Hope. EMPIRE AND REBELLION is the title for a trio of stand alone novels focusing on Leia, Han, and Luke. Martha Wells is writing the Leia novel, James S. A. Corey is writing the Han Solo novel, and Kevin Hearne is writing the Luke novel. RAZOR’S EDGE is due to hit stores this October.

Honestly, while Razor’s Edge isn’t a bad title, it doesn’t really communicate much either. I’m much more interested in what precedes it. Hitherto, the series has been called Rebels as a placeholder until the real name was decided on. It has also been implied/assumed that the three announced books aren’t the only ones in the series. So naturally I hoped that meant there were books for Wedge and Winter on the horizon. Changing the title to EMPIRE and Rebellion opens up a whole new playing field though. I’d still like that Winter book, but this also means there might be room for books centered on people like Fel and Daala. If Del Rey retains its contract past 2014, and Disney lets them run with the series, this has the potential to be one of the best things coming out the EU in a while.
