Legend-of-Zelda-A-Link-to-the-Past-2Rejoice, Zelda fans: Nintendo has announced that the 21-year-old mega-franchise is finally getting a new game! Earlier today, Nintendo revealed that Link is back in The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past 2, a sequel to the original 1992 SNES game, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. The game is being developed for Nintendo’s hand-held 3DS and is set to release later this year.

In a pre-taped video announcement, Nintendo America president Reggie Fils-Aime revealed that the game will take place in the same game world as the original title, but will feature an all-new storyline and dungeons, and will “reinvigorate the flat 2D world of A Link to the Past with a sense of height and volume”. Link will be given an entirely new ability, allowing him to become a 2D drawing and enabling the player to move within walls, offering access previously-unreachable areas and puzzles.
