‘Sons of Anarchy’ Showrunner Kurt Sutter to develop horror series for FX

kurt-sutter__111207191730Hollywood Reporter has released that FX is expanding its current relationship with Kurt Sutter, the boss behind FX’s Sons of Anarchy. Along with the former Hell on Wheels showrunner John Shiban, Sutter will be developing an action horror drama called Lucas Stand.

A dark action/horror drama with both episodic and serialized elements, Lucas Stand follows the salvation quest of a damaged former special ops soldier who has been chosen to traverse time and place to hunt down and kill hell’s law-breaking demons.

This project falls under Sutter’s 3 year deal with Fox 21. Sutter, his wife Katey Sagal (Gemma from Sons of Anarchy, Peggy Bundy from Married with Children), and Belle Zwerdling are also developing a dark comedy called Diva, Clown, Killer. This comedy is about a former 80’s diva (Sagal) whose son is both a party clown and an assassin.

These two projects come as the end of Sutter’s Sons of Anarchy looms in the future. Scheduled for seven seasons, the series ranks as FX’s highest rated show ever, with the last season (season 5) being the highest rated yet. It averaged 6.3 million total viewers, with 4.35 million in the 18-49 demographic.

Shiban will be working with FX for the first time. He currently stepped down as the showrunner on AMC’s Hell on Wheels. His credits also include Breaking Bad, The Vampire Diaries, and Supernatural.
