Following the confirmation that acclaimed director J.J. Abrams will indeed be helming the seventh installment in the Star Wars saga, further details on the film have been popping up left and right. The latest development hit the web today, when reports emerged claiming that John Williams, veteran Star Wars composer, expressed interest in returning to score the new film a few weeks back at one of his concerts.
However, because Abrams is directing, Williams might not get the chance to revisit that galaxy far, far away. Michael Giacchino, a friend of Abrams and the man who has scored his big screen projects, has priority over Williams because of his connection to the director. Whether or not Williams will even get a shot as composer remains to be seen.
Williams seems to be a better choice, given that he’s been with the franchise for years and that his music is legendary. Plus, I don’t think viewers could properly be taken back to the Star Wars universe without his music.
What do you all think? Can Giacchino do Williams’s incredible music justice? Comment away!
