After a long period of silence, Bungie is finally ready to unveil its new universe; universe filled with mystery, adventure, and action. For the first time, the team – including studio co-founder and project director Jason Jones – talks about the vision and creative process behind Destiny, Bungie’s most ambitious project yet.
We will jump right into the video released today:
As for the story line, for everyone thinking it was some sort of Halo spin-off, you were wrong. The game’s story line is much, much different:
Everything changed with the arrival of the Traveler. It sparked a Golden Age when our civilization spanned the solar system, but it didn’t last. Something hit us, knocked us down. The survivors built a city beneath the Traveler, and have begun to explore our old worlds, only to find them filled with deadly foes.
You are a Guardian of the last safe city on Earth, able to wield incredible power. Defend the City. Defeat our enemies. Reclaim all that we have lost.
With that being said, the key features are listed below. One feature that stands out from the video is the mobile interaction with the game. This is a first for the console gaming industry and it will be interesting to see how it plays out.
The next evolution of entertainment — an incredible story set within a newly-imagined, always-connected universe filled with action and adventure.
Create your character, forge your legend by defeating powerful foes, and earn unique and customizable weapons, gear, and vehicles.
Unprecedented variety of FPS gameplay, including story, cooperative and competitive multiplayer modes combined with public and social activities.
Let’s be honest, Bungie’s confidence in their new adventure is warranted, given their accomplishments with Halo. Still the team did point out one area of caution at themselves “We need to earn a big audience, what we did before doesn’t matter.” He’s technically right. But where they go from here, if it all works out, could redefine the next era of action games. We hope it does, because Bungie’s first-person shooter future is one that we want to be a part of.
