New ‘Game of Thrones’ season three featurette shows off the show’s Iceland set and new scenes

Game-of-Thrones-season-3-Iceland-filmingThe crew behind Game of Thrones have been releasing fantastic featurette video blogs documenting life on various sets as filming for HBO’s third season of the George R. R. Martin adaptation, and their third installment in this video series has finally hit the web!

This time, the Game of Thrones crew takes us to Iceland, where a large portion of “beyond the wall” (the 300 mile long wall lining the northern border of the Seven Kingdoms) scenes have been filmed. The natural winter-like harshness allows for a more realistic tone and expanded world feeling in the show. At one point, the crew shows the actual icicles forming in the beards of various characters, pointing out that those sorts of things can only be found on a natural set.

Familiar faces (Jon Snow, Ygritte) are interspersed throughout hordes of Wildling actors and new characters (Tormund Giantsbane, Orell, Mance Rayder), shown alongside a vast amount of footage from their Iceland filming:

“And when the night comes, North of the Wall becomes the Kingdom of the Dead.”

Game of Thrones season three premieres on HBO this March!
