This Week In Trailers: “The Host”, “The Mortal Instruments” And More!

Twilight Saga is now over, and a new movie based on Stephenie Meyer’s book (this time, science fiction) is on the horizon – The Host. Directed by Andrew Niccol and starring Saoirse Ronan, Max Irons, Jake Abel, Diane Kruger and William Hurt, The Host hits theaters on March 29th, 2013. Here’s the synopsis from IMDb:

A parasitic alien soul is injected into the body of Melanie Stryder. Instead of carrying out her race’s mission of taking over the Earth, “Wanda” (as she comes to be called) forms a bond with her host and sets out to aid other free humans.

This week brought us the first trailer for The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones. I haven’t read Cassandra Clare’s book, but after seeing this trailer, I’m really looking forward to the movie. Directed by Harald Zwart and starring Lily Collins, Jamie Campbell Bower, Lena Headey and Jonathan Rhys Meyers, The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones comes out on August 23rd, 2013.

Mortal Instruments revolves around Clary Fray (Lily Collins, Mirror Mirror), an ordinary teenager living in modern New York City, who discovers the truth about her lineage after her mother (Lena Headey, Game of Thrones) mysteriously vanishes: namely, that she is a descendant of the Shadowhunters, a legion of half-angel warriors who (in secret) protect humanity from the forces of darkness. Soon thereafter, young Clary begins her training as a demon-destroyer, with assistance from Hodge Starkweather (Jared Harris, Mad Men) – who is the elder caretaker at the Shadowhunter Institute - and the handsome-but-deadly warrior Jace Wayland (Jamie Cambell Bower, Camelot). Also out this week is a new trailer for Beautiful Creatures, based on the book by Kami Garcia. Directed by Richard LaGravanese and starring Alice Englert, Emmy Rossum, Jeremy Irons and Emma Thompson, Beautiful Creatures comes out on February 13th, 2013. Here’s the synopsis from IMDb:

Ethan longs to escape his small Southern town. He meets a mysterious new girl, Lena. Together, they uncover dark secrets about their respective families, their history and their town.

The latest trailer for Oz: The Great and Powerful is vibrant with colors and gives a much more comprehensive look at the story. Directed by Sam Raimi and starring James Franco, Michelle Williams and Rachel Weisz, Oz: The Great and Powerful comes out on March 8th, 2013.

The new red-band trailer gives us a look at ABCs of Death – a compilation of 26 horror stories directed by 26 different directors. It definitely looks like there will be something for every horror fan. ABCs of Death comes out in a limited release on March 8th, 2013.
