Tales From the Crypt Returns to Television!

If you recognize this handsome figure, then you, like myself, grew up in an age of relentless comic book based horror that was showcased on HBO. I’m talking about Tales from the Crypt, of course. This Emmy Award-winning show, hosted by a cackling corpse (voiced by John Kassir), was a fun, gruesome, and creepy horror anthology all wrapped up into an extravagant 93 episodes.

Based on the legendary and gruesome 1950’s EC Comics from publisher, William M. Gaines, this horror anthology featured stories of murder, greed, lust, gore and the supernatural, with touches of humor sprinkled throughout, usually with a twist ending of sorts. Some of Hollywood’s biggest names including Demi Moore, Tom Hanks, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Whoopi Goldberg and Michael J. Fox were featured, either in front or behind the camera. Hosting duties fell to everyone’s favorite decaying corpse, the Crypt Keeper. The episodes were based on several comic books by Gaines, which were The Vault of Horror, The Haunt of Fear, Crime SuspenStories, Shock SuspenStories, and, of course, Tales from the Crypt, to name a few. The “Tales from the Crypt” episodes will premiere Friday nights in a two-hour block on FEARnet from 10 pm to Midnight ET (7 pm to 9 pm PT) and will be re-aired at the same time on Mondays. Starting on October 5th, all 93 episodes will be shown and will be played in order, beginning with season 1 and continuing until season 7 which was the final season of the landmark show.

Starting on October 10th, the premiere episodes will be shown in 2 hour blocks in their original unedited format on FEARnet’s VOD channel.  Four shows will be added to the channel every Wednesday, and each episode will remain in the library for six weeks.

Additional fan treats will be available on the FEARnet website such as comic book covers used on the show, quotes from the Cryptkeeper, and exclusive video clips.

I can’t post anything about this show without supplying the intro. I just love the Crypt Keeper’s laugh!
