Fresh from the Slab: Horror Movie News September 16, 2012

Due to the site being down for a few days, Fresh from the Slab is a little late, but I hope you have all been craving our horror movie news. Take a peak, you’ll enjoy it!

Alexandre Aja’s Horns has a pretty interesting cast so far. Daniel Radcliffe has been cast to be Ig Perrish and Juno Temple has been cast as Ig’s girlfriend Merrin. Now, we have another addition: James Remar is joining the cast. You might recognize Remar most recently in Dexter where he plays Dexter’s dad.

I’ve read the book and I love it. Written by Joe Hill, this is an interesting tale of betrayal, love, and corruption. It is a year after the brutal rape and murder of Ig’s girlfriend (where Ig is the #1 suspect), and Ig is out drowning his sorrows with alcohol. When he awakes with a murderous hangover, he realizes something is new: he has horns. These horns allow him to have an unusual effect on people and the horns may help Ig search for the real killer.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D

A new trailer has been released for TCM 3D, and it looks like this movie might have some promise. While I do have a slightly hesitant view of franchise films, I still think we all should give Leatherface a chance to impress and scare us. Here is the summary of the movie from and the trailer:

Picking up where Tobe Hooper’s 1974 horror classic left off in Newt, Texas, where for decades people went missing without a trace.  The townspeople long suspected the Sawyer family, owners of a local barbeque pit, were somehow responsible.  Their suspicions were finally confirmed one hot summer day when a young woman escaped the Sawyer house following the brutal murders of her four friends.  Word around the small town quickly spread, and a vigilante mob of enraged locals surrounded the Sawyer stronghold, burning it to the ground and killing every last member of the family – or so they thought.

Decades later and hundreds of miles away from the original massacre, a young woman named Heather learns that she has inherited a Texas estate from a grandmother she never knew she had.  After embarking on a road trip with friends to uncover her roots, she finds she is the sole owner of a lavish, isolated Victorian mansion. But her newfound wealth comes at a price as she stumbles upon a horror that awaits her in the mansion’s dank cellars…

American Mary

American Mary will be having its US premiere at Fantastic Fest, the largest genre film festival in the US. This festival specializes in horror, fantasy, sci-fi, action, and all sorts of movies from all over the world. The Soska sisters (Jen and Sylvia) drew attention of critics with their debut film Dead Hooker in the Trunk. This is their next movie under their label: Twisted Twins Productions. Like Dee Snider’s Strangeland, American Mary jumps into the world of extreme body modification and surgery. Unlike Snider’s film, this looks to be a grim, horrific film that is going to push limits. I love it. Take a peak at the movie synopsis and trailer below!

Disillusioned with her chosen profession and perpetually broke, medical student Mary Mason finds herself drawn into a shady world of underground surgery and body modification.

So what do you all think? Do you think we might have some promising, original films in the future?
