Michael Clarke Duncan, Oscar Nominee for The Green Mile, Dead at 54

Michael Clarke Duncan, whose movie credits include The Green Mile, Planet of the Apes, Sin City, Armageddon, The Scorpion King, etc, died yesterday morning in a Los Angeles hospital after suffering a myocardial infarction on July 13th. He remained hospitalized in the same LA hospital and never recovered enough to be discharged.

Not only known for his movies, Duncan was also known for his multitude of television spots plus lending his distinctive voice to video games and animated shows. He was one of Hollywood’s gentle giants and he will be missed by all. Duncan’s infectious smile and ability to convey such an amazing range of emotions are a huge loss to the movie industry.

Duncan’s fiancee, Reverend Omarosa Manigault, announced the actor’s death in a statement released by publicist Joy Fehily.

Michael Clarke Duncan… the one and only actor to have made myself cry to sleep, after watching the Green Mile. Amazing is but a euphemism to describe his talent and frankly, I believe that man was nowhere near as prized as he deserved. In every meaning of the term, a true giant. You will be missed, Mr. Duncan, you will be dearly, dearly missed. I find myself wishing for you to have the brightest place in heaven, just as I wished it for John Coffey when I watched that movie. May your example bless the film industry for many years to come, because that’s an “infection of life” I believe no one could ever say no to.

May you rest in peace, Mr. Duncan. Tonight, in your honor, I shall watch the Green Mile once more. I hope many others will do the same. Be thou blessed, and thank you for having blessed so many others through your talent.
