Interesting news in the world of Avatar: The Last Airbender and Legend of Korra has surfaced: Following the disastrous release of The Last Airbender, M. Night Shyamalan and Nickelodeon’s butchered attempt at bringing the hit animated series to the live-action big screen, news is surfacing that an animated Legend of Korra movie may be in the works!
IGN is reporting that Paramount Animation (a new studio under the Paramount umbrella) is considering an animated Legend of Korra movie. The movie would be among the first films to release as part of the Nick and Paramount Animation partnership, which has so far only acknowledged working on a SpongeBob Squarepants movie. According to IGN’s report, Paramount Animation has hired seven writers to begin work on a host of titles — Legend of Korra included — and are looking to keep the Korra adaptation within a $100 million budget, similar to budgets for Ice Age and Despicable Me.
We’re sure Nick has taken note after backing such an awful live-action reboot of one of their most successful animated series and will apply what they (hopefully) learned to any movie they option on either of the properties moving forward. No information has been released as to whether this would be a series reboot, which would seem a bit silly this early into the series, or if the movie will continue/expand on the hit TV show’s ongoing plot.
We’ll be sure to keep you updated as any new information surfaces! In the mean time, do you think an animated movie is a good idea? Are you apprehensive after the “The Last Airbender” disaster?
