First Photo From The Set Of “Carrie” Remake

The new adaptation of Stephen King’s Carrie, directed by Kimberly Peirce, started filming this week in Toronto. The new picture shows Chloe Grace Moretz, who plays Carrie, in costume on set. The cast also includes Julianne Moore, Judy Greer, Gabriella Wilde and Portia Doubleday. The release date is set for March of 2013.

The quiet suburb of Chamberlain, Maine is home to the deeply religious and conservative Margaret White (Moore) and her daughter Carrie (Moretz). Carrie is a sweet but meek outcast whom Margaret has sheltered from society. Gym teacher Miss Desjardin (Greer) tries in vain to protect Carrie from local mean girls led by the popular and haughty Chris Hargenson (Portia Doubleday, Youth in Revolt), but only Chris’ best friend, Sue Snell (Gabriella Wilde, The Three Musketeers), regrets their actions. In an effort to make amends, Sue asks her boyfriend, high school heartthrob Tommy Ross (newcomer Ansel Elgort), to take Carrie to prom. Pushed to the limit by her peers at the dance, Carrie unleashes telekinetic havoc.

I have heard a lot of good about Steven King novels (especially the Dark Tower series) but this just sounds cheesy and laughable like a bad fan-fiction filled to the top with Mary Sues and high school drama. It sounds utterly cliche and hilariously sappy. No doubt it will be overloaded with angst, “will they, won’t they” drama and b*tch fights. And all this crap is coming from the venerable Steven King? *sighs sadly and shakes head in dismay* Just what exactly is the world coming to these days?
