Michael Scott’s ‘The Alchemyst’ to be Made Into a Movie — With Him Writing the Script!

Big news, Flamel fans! The Alchemyst, book one in Michael Scott’s New York Times Best-selling The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel series is being brought to the big screen!

What’s even better is that they approached Scott with the opportunity to write the script, which he immediately agreed to. As The Hollywood Reporter reports, “‘I immediately responded to the producer’s vision in bringing the first book in the series to life,’ Scott said.”

Australian-based film company AMPCO Films is set to finance and produce the movie, with filming to start in February of next year down under in both Australia and New Zealand.

Reporter also states:

“AMPCO’s Mario Andreacchio (Captain Johnno, Paradise Found) will produce with Konstantin Thoeren (Peter the Great, Rainer Werner Fassbinder’s Lili Marlene).

Stefan Brunner, former COO of Imagenation Abu Dhabi, is packaging the project and will executive produce alongside Scott and Barry Krost. Lawless Entertainment CEO Cathy Malatesta brokered the deal for the film rights and will co-executive produce.”

I personally haven’t heard of any of those people, but with Michael Scott writing the script, we can at least be sure he’ll stay true to the story he created. Let’s just hope the filmmakers can bring it to life and give it the feel of the books. We’ll keep you updated as info rolls in!

What’s the book about? Here’s the summary on amazon:

He holds the secret that can end the world.
The truth: Nicholas Flamel was born in Paris on September 28, 1330. Nearly 700 years later, he is acknowledged as the greatest Alchemyst of his day. It is said that he discovered the secret of eternal life.
The records show that he died in 1418.
But his tomb is empty.
The legend: Nicholas Flamel lives. But only because he has been making the elixir of life for centuries. The secret of eternal life is hidden within the book he protects—the Book of Abraham the Mage. It’s the most powerful book that has ever existed. In the wrong hands, it will destroy the world. That’s exactly what Dr. John Dee plans to do when he steals it. Humankind won’t know what’s happening until it’s too late. And if the prophecy is right, Sophie and Josh Newman are the only ones with the power to save the world as we know it.
Sometimes legends are true.
And Sophie and Josh Newman are about to find themselves in the middle of the greatest legend of all time.

The sixth and final book in the series, The Enchantress, hit shelves recently, so now’s the perfect time to start this series cover to cover and be ready for when the movie comes out!

OMG that is so exciting :D And the author is writing the script- how awesome is that!!! If only it was like that for all movies based on books….

But Tolkien can’t write The Hobbit films. He’s dead. (referencing your icon)

      • DragonsAreAwesome

Oh noo.. lol I wasn’t referencing the Hobbit :P I love the LOTR movies and I trust Peter Jackson to do a good job with the Hobbit.  I was refering to some terrible movies based on awesome books like Eragon and Percy Jackson (and the authors are alive :D )

Yeah Eragon and Percy Jackson were horrible :. I heard they are making a 2nd Percy Jackson movie though -_- so I wonder where that would go.

          • DragonsAreAwesome

I know, I heard that too :(    Definately do not want to see it.  Don’t even see how they can make a movie since they removed the crucial plotline…

they trampled over the plotline just like eragon its disgusting. i especially hate how they changed the whole personality of Grover i mean like WTF.

Yeah, i agree, they were horrible. Even The Hunger Games was lame. considering the author was one of the screenwriters.

Hey Lauren this is off topic but to become a review for the site do you have to be at least 18? Or you have to older than 18? Bit confused

    • http://www.lytherus.com/ Lauren Zurchin

We usually only take over 18, but there are occasional exceptions when people absolutely wow us :)

I am psyched!  This is one of my favorite series, so I’m definitely looking forward to the movie, especially knowing that Michael Scott himself will be writing the script.  I look forward to seeing the movie when it comes out.
