Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg Talk about Third Installment of their “Blood & Ice Cream Trilogy”

Wright and Peggs “Blood & Ice Cream Trilogy” (also called Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy) started with 2004’s Shaun of the Dead and continued with 2007’s Hot Fuzz. Shooting is scheduled to start in September 2012 for the final installment in the trilogy: The World’s End. Nick Frost will also be returning to rejoin Wright and Pegg in the final installment.

20 years after attempting an epic pub crawl, five childhood friends reunite when one of them becomes hell bent on trying the drinking marathon again. They are convinced to stage an encore by mate Gary King, a 40-year old man trapped at the cigarette end of his teens, who drags his reluctant pals to their home town and once again attempts to reach the fabled pub, The World’s End. As they attempt to reconcile the past and present, they realize the real struggle is for the future, not just theirs but humankind’s. Reaching The World’s End is the least of their worries.  (Synopsis from www.imdb.com)

According to Wright, The World’s End will be more mature than the previous two films, but also very silly. During an interview with Empire, Wright stated that  “it’s also very silly. I would say it’s darker, more personal and more silly.”

But what genre will this movie fall into? Shaun of the Dead is a rom-zom-com while Hot Fuzz is a mix of explosive buddy movies, where will The World’s End fall? According to Wright and Pegg, it’s a Sci-fi comedy or Social Sci-fi.

We’ll just have to wait and see!
