Danielle Harris’ Directorial Debut: Among Friends Looks Like an Amazing Return to 80’s Horror

AMONG FRIENDS is a twisted horror about a dinner party gone wrong. Set against an 80s backdrop, the good time takes a dark turn when one in the group hijacks the evening in an attempt to help the others come clean about their secret betrayals against one another–and is willing to cut through the bone in order to expose the truth.

Executive Produced by Jay Lobit (Three Little Birds Productions) and William Allison (Hollywood Treasures, Inc.), AMONG FRIENDS was shot in August 2011 in Los Angeles and is currently in Post Production.

This film marks a collaboration of real-life friends, with most people in the cast and crew having known each other for years. Written by Alyssa Lobit and Produced by Jennifer Blanc-Biehn and Athena Lobit, AMONG FRIENDS is the feature directing debut of Scream Queen Danielle Harris. This group of women collectively has decades of experience in the film industry and they are excited to be bringing fans and audiences everywhere a roller coaster ride of fun, intensity and, oh yes… blood.

Among Friends. This dinner party’s gonna be KILLER.

With Among Friends being in post production, Danielle Harris’ debut horror directorial looks like it might present horror fans with a return to 80’s style horror but with aggresive and bold approaches to violence, sex, and gore. You can check out the teaser trailer here, and I have to say that I am very excited to see this film. With Harris’ experiences in the horror realm (from a precocious acting lead in Halloween 4, Halloween 5, returning to the Halloween franchise 20 years later in Rob Zombie’s Halloween, and her part in the Hatchet Films), she is bringing a lifetime of horror experience and unique perspective to the directing role. Admittedly, I am a huge Danielle Harris fan (and was lucky enough to meet her at a horror convention in Pittsburgh, PA), but it seems like this film will be a fun, bloody return to 80’s slasher and 21st century gore. Even when I make it past my Danielle Harris crush, I can see that this movie might help bring some life back into the horror comedy genre. Take a look at the trailer here:

Among Friends is scheduled to be released in 2013.

So horror movie fans, what do you think about the trailer?
