Stephenie Meyer is cleaning up after all five of the books she’s written have been or are in the process of being turned into films. The last to be added to this list is her sci-fi body-snatcher book The Host. The movie is still in production, but a teaser trailer was recently released. Though it doesn’t really show any of the film, it gets the feel of the story across in eerie perfection.
Directed by Andrew Niccol the movie stars Saoirse Ronan, Max Irons, Jake Abel, Diane Kruger, William Hurt and Frances Fisher. The premise is that aliens take over humans, erasing who they were. They make the world a much better place, so in some ways it’s hard to hate these peaceful invaders. The main character, Melanie Stryder (played by Ronan) fights the alien trying to take over her, and for a while they both live inside her mind. Creepy, right? It was an enjoyable sci-fi book, and I’m hoping the movie captures the essence of the story.
The Host is set to hit theaters on March 29th of next year.
