Supernatural: Amazons And Killer Unicorns

Episode 13, “The Slice Girls”, kicked off with a pretty gruesome opening scene, but the blood splattering didn’t end there. More followed as Sam and Dean started investigating deaths where the victims’ hands and feet were cut off. The only clue – the strange symbol branded on each of the victims’ chest – lead the brothers to the Greek myth of the Amazon warriors. Unknowingly, Dean has an encounter with one of the modern-day Amazons and things get interesting from there. Apart from being on the bloodier side of things, “The Slice Girls” had some interesting mythology and plot twists, finding Dean in a rather unusual  situation at the end of the episode.

Last week’s episode, “Plucky Pennywhistle’s Magical Menagerie” features Sam’s favorite kind of monsters – clowns. As the Winchesters investigate several extremely weird deaths, everything leads them to the Plucky Pennywhistle’s Magical Menagerie pizza chain where children have their birthday parties. It seems that children’s worst fears come to life and go after the parents. It’s not the easiest case for Sam, as he has to face some of his old childhood fears.

“Plucky Pennywhistle’s Magical Menagerie” is a great mix of weird and hilarious – just the comic relief this season needed. This is Supernatural, after all, so there can be sharks, killer unicorns and evil clowns in the same episode, and somehow, it all works. One of the high points of the episode is definitely Sam’s face off with two clowns, which is not going too well at all, at first, but ultimately leads to an ending that leaves off on a light note.
