To celebrate it’s 20th anniversary, Manga Entertainment is releasing one of the most anticipated anime feature films; the visually stunning Redline.
Created by Studio Madhouse, (the studio responsible for hits such as Paprika, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, and Summer Wars,) Redline is about the biggest, deadliest, race in the world held once every five years. Racers risks their lives for the chance of fame, including young dare-devil driver JP. While he is driving the course of his life, he must focus on his goal as governments and crime syndicates try to manipulate the race in their favor and as JP begins to fall more and more for the beautiful rival racer Sonoshee.
After spending seven long years in production, Redline was released to rave reviews not only in Japan in 2010, but in various international film festivals. Some of the impressive awards that Redline has won are:
- won the Audience Official Selection Award for Animation at Fantasia
- Outstanding Achievement in Feature Filmmaking – Animation Award at the Newport Beach Film Festival
Redline has even won some praise from critics who are admittedly usually not anime fans. Harry Knowles said, “Redline should not be missed, everyone came out smiling and happy. FANTASTIC!”
Redline will receive a limited theatrical release starting December 2nd in Los Angeles and starting January 17th in New York. it will be released on DVD and Blu-ray on January 17th.
