NBC has ordered a pilot of Bryan Fuller’s (Pushing Daises) remake of the classic horror/comedy TV show, The Munsters. This new version would be changed into an hour long sitcom that is rumored to have a slightly darker and less silly feel to it than the original. The original was a black and white TV show, which surprisingly only aired from 1964-1966. The running gag of the original show was, of course, that the Munster family of ghoulish figures never understood why people reacted to them so strangely, thinking themselves quite the attractive and respectable family and having absolutely no inkling how odd they were in the midst of normal, modern society.
Entertainment weekly has reported that The Munsters might have a bit of similar competition for this spot at NBC considering the station is also developing a remake of Frankenstein by Garrett Lerner and Russel Friend (House producers) as well as a TV show version based on Thomas Harris’ Hannibal Lecter novels.
