Trekkies and fans of the 2009 film can now rest easy knowing that production on the much anticipated sequel has an official start date! Sources report that January 15th, 2012 is when director J. J. Abrams and his crew will begin production. This comes as exciting and reassuring news, because updates on the film have been notoriously slow and fans have been restlessly awaiting ANY big news regarding the movie.
In addition to that, we have new information regarding some of the locations that could be potentially used for filming. Remote areas of Hawaii have been scoured by Abrams, hinting at some jungle filming, as well as a museum in Los Angeles. Most of the film, however, will be filmed on Paramount property.
