First “Hunger Games” Theatrical Trailer is Officially Released!

Lionsgate officially released the first theatrical trailer for their upcoming Hunger Games movie adaptation this morning on Good Morning America! Apple Trailer is also officially carrying the trailer, which we have on Lytherus for your viewing pleasure!

The first true trailer for the film does not disappoint! The film’s editors did a brilliant job of setting the stage for the upcoming film without ruining the suspense of the plot by using the trailer to tell the story of the first half of the film — from the time Katniss and Peeta are chosen as Tributes to the beginning of the Hunger Games. The trailer shows us a great number of Hunger Games characters… but fails to give us much of a look at any of the other Tributes, which we know will play a significant role in the film. Is this because Lionsgate wanted to only show the first half of the film?

We also get a great look at secondary characters including Effie, Haymith, President Snow, Prim, and Cinna, in addition to an overshot of the Capitol!

Check out the trailer:

We’d love to hear your thoughts on the trailer as well as the scenes and characters shown within. Most importantly, how do you feel about Katniss, Peeta, and Gale from the film? What did you think of Effie, Haymith, President Snow, Prim, and Cinna? Do you think the trailer sets a proper tone for the Hunger Games movie? Was there anything you didn’t like?

well, its a good wow for me. I’ve been really interested at how well the
director follows the book, and from the trailer it looks like its going
to be good (unlike a certain other movie I could mention *cough* Eragon
        *cough*).

AWESOME wow! it looks amazing :D

Good wow for me as well. Though somehow, I’d pictured Disctrict 12 as more… post-apocalyptic. That’s just me though.

I have never read the books, but the movie looks good so i might check out the book before the movie comes out

Wow indeed.  Good wow.  I thought District 12 was fairly well-represented, especially the area outside during the scene with Katniss and Gale.  This is supposed to be West Virginia, after all, and if there’s enough wildlife out there for them to hunt it can’t be too “post-Apocalyptic.”  I’ll be curious to see more of the inside of the district though.  I wasn’t paying attention to it this time around — too intent on watching Katniss volunteer for Prim.

I am also not sure about the glimpse we got of Katniss in a red dress.  Was that supposed to be their introduction, or when they went to get interviewed?  In either case, it didn’t seem sensational enough for me.

Overall, I thought it was great, but really it just makes me wish the movie were going to be out sooner!

I think that’s when they get interviewed, but I could be wrong

It certainly looked like it. Caesar was holding her hand up. That dress isn’t a big deal to me, what will be more interesting will be how they represent the Chariot Dress because “The girl who was on fire” is a pretty important recurring theme.

They did show Rue and Cato in the trailer and obviously those two will probably play the biggest roles when it comes to tributes excluding Paeta/Katniss.
