Harry Potter Movies for Purchase Soon to be a Thing of the Past?

Warner Brothers, Inc. announced yesterday that as of December 29th, 2011, all movies in the Harry Potter franchise (including Deathly Hallows part 2 and The Complete 8-Film Collection) will stopped being shipped (this doesn’t apply to digital copies or games, only DVDs).

Why they are pulling these lucrative movies from circulation is only speculation at this time, but considering that they have grossed over $12 billion, it might be a bad choice. However, Disney seems to succeed in doing this when they offer specific movies every once in a while for a limited time.

Perhaps it will be like candy corn and shamrock shakes, the fact that they are a limited offer will increase sales when they are around. Regardless, you have through Christmas to get your movies, for sure!

By the way, this is stupid.

    Just saying…

It is stupid but I’m sure next year they will start releasing the movies again in an ULTIMATE, ULTIMATE EXTENDED edition.  Then maybe in a 3D edition and in a few years they will do it again and then again until sales drop.

It is called sucking the money away from the die hard fans!!!

I really never knew that George Lucas was actually the one who was behind the Potter movies. He is after all, the best at these sorts of tactics

I wonder who did start this idea, George or Disney?  They both have done the same thing for quite a few years.

I think Disney started it with their constant re-releases of movies such as Snow White and Sleeping Beauty

I reckon. Talk about dodgy! I don’t think that is fair really. I am sort of disappointed with the way all the movies turned out but I would still love to have them all in special editions WITH THE DELETED SCENES INCORPORATED INTO THE MOVIE. It really irritated me that they made the first two ultimate editions like that and then didn’t do the others like that.

    Money-grubbing bast-ards!

This is a ploy to sell a lot of copies before Christmas. While they probably will follow through with it, but it’s like saying if you don’t buy them now, you can’t have them. It will probably be really successful at raising sales for all eight movies before christmas, but I won’t buy any of the movies because of it.

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I thought I heard somewhere that they were going to do some sort of huge release of some sort next year though. Confusion.

Lol. I’m not ever a die-hard fan of the series and even I am a little annoyed by this decision.

  • Meh

They’re probably just priming it so that they can be released on pottermore exclusively… didn’t they say they were going to do that?
