Thor 2 Gets a Director (and a new release date)!

Ever since Kenneth Branagh turned down the opportunity to helm Thor 2, many have wondered who will take his place in the director’s chair. Now, after months of speculation, we finally get a confirmed director for the sequel to this summer’s smash hit.

Patty Jenkins, whose most recent film credit is Monster, will take over for Branagh and (hopefully) bring us a satisfactory sequel to this summer’s smash hit. Her track record has been good, with some of her credits being directing episodes of hit shows like Entourage.

I loved Branagh’s take on the  character, so naturally I’m a bit skeptical about Marvel bringing someone new in to tackle the franchise. On the other hand, I trust Marvel’s decisions and am confident that Jenkins will do the character justice. It might also be interesting to see how her take on the character differs from Branagh’s. Either way, I’m still excited for this sequel.

What do you all think? Is Patty Jenkins a good match for Thor 2?

UPDATE: Disney also announced that the scheduled release date for Thor 2 has been pushed back from it’s original date (July 26, 2013) to a new date almost 4 months later and closer to the holiday season – November 15, 2013.
