Rick Riordan Announces New Book Series Exploring Nordic Gods

He’s done Egyptian gods and Greek gods, so naturally Nordic gods were next in line! Percy Jackson author Rick Riordan and his publisher have officially announced a new book series involving the Nordic gods of old. Riordan now has a three book deal with Disney, his publisher, for the Nordic series.

The author, who releases another book in his Heroes of Olympus series this week, has been wanting to write about the Nordic gods since before Percy Jackson hit it big:

“The Norse gods are so wild. They have this wild, barbaric energy you don’t associate with the Greeks.”

“There are so many fantastic stories and I want to bring Thor and Odin and the other gods into the modern world, just like I did with the Greeks and Percy Jackson,” Riordan said. “I’ll give the books an urban setting and have young people interacting with the Norse gods.”

Sadly, fans will have to wait a while before seeing the new series — likely not before 2015. The author is still hard at work on his “Heroes of Olympus” and “Kane Chronicles” series, in which he has more books planned. His Nordic tales are still in outline phase.

Are you excited for another series from Riordan?

Having not read any of Rick Riordan’s stuff and being a big Norse mythology buff. I’m cautiously optimistic about this.

You should read them all. He is an amazing author

    • Elf Knight

As Alexis said, you should really read them. Start with the five-part Percy Jackson series. It might seem childish at first but it gets really awesome and bada$$ full of Greek Mythology and now Roman with the release of the Heroes of Olympus. What’s more, the new Heroes book – The Son of Neptune- comes out tomorrow if I remember correctly. I can’t wait!!

Well, the Kane Chronicles,Percy Jackson and The Olympians, and The Heroes of Olympus have some amazing story telling. Just understand that Rick started writing them for his children, so they’re not going to have perfect writing/mature storytelling. They’re fun and adventurous for young readers. I recommend all the books! Just don’t have extreme expectations when you read them. :)

Totally agree man! These books are pretty good for young readers or children who are starting reading now. The story makes you keep reading more and more, it makes the ones that don’t like reading that much think again about getting a book on the shelf instead of turning the tv on to watch some cartoon.

I love the Percy Jackson/Heroes of Olympus series. I’m gonna start the Kane Chronicles sometime and I’ll be looking forward to the Nordic Gods books. :-)

  • DragonsAreAwesome

Sounds cooll!!  I love his books.

  • Elf Knight

I think this would be very cool, and I had even thought to try my hand at such a Nordic tale as inspired by Percy Jackson and the Olympians, of course. Rick Riordian is the best however, and I’d much rather see him do it then me. I really enjoy his urban fantasy stories and am thrilled that he has something new prepared for when the Heroes series and the Kane Chronicles are finished. Also, The Son of Neptune is released TOMORROW!!! EPIC, simply epic!!! ;-)

His books are always great, letting anybody understand myths of old. I can’t wait to see what he does with the Norse Gods. Trip to Asgard, anyone?

Side note, what hasn’t he done (or is going to do)? He’s doe the gods of the Greeks/Romans, Egyptians,  and Norse, so who’s next?

Eager to learn about Norse mythology so Rick Riordan will be good. I hope he still does a sequel to the Heroes Of Olympus series but he is a talented author so looking forward to whatever he does.
