Free Comic Book day is that seemingly mythic day always in the distant future. It’s that day that by its very name sounds like a fantastic idea, yet somehow passes by every year with the afterthought of “oh crap! I forgot when that was again!” Well here is your reminder, because Free Comic Book day is this Saturday May 7, 2011! So here’s what you have to do to get free comics…

Step 1) Find your local comic book store (Click here for a handy-dandy locator to help you with step 1)
Step 2) Show up.
(There’s an optional step three of saying “please”, “thank you”, and “oh man, that’s so cool!”)

Perhaps you want to judge if Free Comic Book Day is worth your time before you make the trip. Every comic shop will be different in what they are offering and how expansive this event is for them. But generally, here is a list of comics that have been specifically prepared to be offered:

In addition to free comics, many shops will also be having signings from various artists and authors. Here’s a listing of where you can expect to find such celebs: http://www.freecomicbookday.com/signings.asp

As you might have noticed, many of the above comics are kid-friendly. This is a great opportunity to introduce children to comics without having to worry about a lot of the mature content that is now in a lot of mainstream series.

So reserve an hour or two this Saturday to visit your local shop.
