Video Game Releases – April

April is just around the corner, let’s take a look at what it has in store for us in the video game world.

PORTAL 2 (PC, PS3, XBOX 360)

Portal 2 takes place many years after the first game. Despite her destruction at the end of the original Portal, GLaDOS, an AI computer system, remains functional.  The player takes control of Chell, the previous Protagonist.  In the beginning of the game, Chell finds herself in what appears to be a motel room and after a robotic voice guides her through some test, she is put to sleep.  Upon awakening, the decor in the room seems to have aged significantly, showing many years have passed by. Wheatley, a personality sphere, helps Chell escape the room as it shifts and moves.  Chell eventually finds herself back in the test chambers of the Aperture Science labs.  Chell vs GLaDOS, round two.  Can you solve the twisted puzzles this time around?

Mortal Kombat (PS3, XBOX 360)

Yes, you heard that right. The Original Mortal Kombat is being rebooted and brought back to life with enhanced graphics and gameplay!  Raiden is about to be killed by Shao Kahn, and just before he delivers the last blow, Raiden sends a mental message to his earlier self, and the camera rewinds back to Mortal Kombat 1. The Raiden from Mortal Kombat 1 then gets the message and experiences a premonition. The game then spans Mortal Kombat 1, 2, and 3, retelling the story with an enlightened Raiden, who has changed the course of events. Eventually, everything you’ve seen happen before – Liu Kang winning, the guys turning into cybernetic ninjas, has been altered. You might see a cybernetic character who wasn’t there before.

Darkspore (PC)

The Crogenitors were a race of unrivalled scientists and had built a large galactic empire. They had mastered mutation and used their knowledge to create an army of genetic heroes, that became known as “Living Weapons”. But the discovery by Crogenitor Zelem of the E-DNA, an experimental amino acid that bonds to DNA, changed everything: it was used to weaponize life itself, and it was capable of achieving millennia of evolution in hours. However, the E-DNA was unstable and all of the subjects who came in contact with it were transformed into a genetic nightmare and connected with a hive mind know as “The Darkspore”. The E-DNA rapidly turned into a virus that spread all over the galaxy, killing everything in sight. The end result was war.

Patapon 3 (PSP)

Upon completing the bridge they constructed at the end of Patapon 2 the Patapons find a mysterious box. Upon opening seven evil spirits are released and turn all the Patapons to stone except Hatapon. A silver Hoshipon from inside the box revives Hero as Superhero Patapon. They endeavor to defeat the evil spirits.  Gameplay remains mostly the same from previous installments, with each face button representing a drum that is beat giving instructions to an army of Patapons. The main new addition being “Superhero Patapon,” who acts as the player’s avatar and is the character that physically beats the drums rather than the omnipresent god previously. The multiplayer gameplay has been expanded and will feature more heavily. A competitive mode with four way battles has been added, complimenting the co-op system. Every level will be playable in multiplayer mode and can be played by a single player or with a total of eight players. It can be played over the internet or locally with another PlayStation Portable.
