A British Superman?

Zack Snyder, the director known for Sucker Punch, is planning a Superman movie that is set to release in December 2012. But who has will be cast as the famous Man of Steel? He has said that he wants a relatively unknown actor to play the superhero, and seems he finally found his man.

A Warner Brothers exec told Deadline today that British actor Henry Cavill (best known for his role as Charles Brandon in Tudors), has been cast in the role. Here’s what the executive had to say about cavill:

He’s got an amazing quality. He doesn’t look too much like Reeve and Routh but he’s big and strong and he has a very modern feel to him […] We’re really going to try and make Superman as contemporary as possible.

How will he do? Only time will tell, but we’ll surely be following his progress.

Well Superman is the ‘Ultimate Immigrant’ so he doesn’t have to be a American.

He does have a good “Man of Steel” look to him, maybe not so much in the “Clark Kent” side of thing though.

I could easily see him as superman. Although I didn’t like the Tudors very much, he does have that ability to look either really good or really bad, I guess. There may be hope yet for the Man of Steel!

A British Batman, Spiderman and now, Superman? Johnathan and Martha Kent’s all-AMERICAN Kansas boy? Australian Jokers and Dr. Dooms? When will this outsourcing of American icon roles stop? Everyone in Harry Potter HAD to be UK-born, but we don’t have any such quotas in this country?
